Whet marks the debut full-length by Olympia, WA's Broken Water. Having already released a 7" and a demo CD by themselves, this is the first collaboration with Radio Is Down. The three-piece - consisting of 2 parts Sisters to one part Congratulations - deliver a methodical noise clinic that's as abrasive as it is beautiful. Dig Dave Harvey's saxophone on "Spore"! We're damn proud of our locals. Limited press of 1000.
Wisdom Teeth have shifted such that they are now Wisdom Teef. This EP features 5 new songs, three of which were recorded with former bassist Mark Rentfrow. The other two, recorded with new bassist William Frith, are a perfect example of the band's newly found minimalist leanings. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Bob Schwenkler of Bicycle Recordings. CDEP acts as precursor to 10" vinyl format due summer 2010. Limited press of 500.
Eighties versus nineties versus now. Our fine friends from Zagreb have delivered a fine debut recording. Memorable melodies collide with some ass-shakingly abrasive rhythms. The female vocals deliver one helluva cock punch. Check it! Limited press of 500.
Says Andrew Ryan Fetter of Ghettoblaster Magazine:
Remember when Indie-Rock actually rocked? Ex Wives sure as shit do. Their four song 7" is a reminder of better times, but there is no nostalgia here. It's all about moving forward, and with sweat-drenched energy. Each song brings to mind old Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike, and The Casket Lottery, but with a sense of urgency not really seen by many of the easy comparisons. The longest song is 3:30, but it still moves so damn fast. The real letdown here is as usual with great EP's: it's over much too soon. You have to listen to this about 4 times to really get a decent fix. However doing so won't get old, I promise you.
Limited press of 300. White vinyl. Embossed and serially numbered. Suck it.
Eight songs clock in at just shy of sixteen minutes. Relentlessly blasting from multiple directions. Art-rock inspirations have blended with post-hardcore to create a sound best described as an honest-to-goodness mind fuck. Count the signatures! Limited press of 500.
Two Axes manages to pack into it's 28-minute duration enough punchy quirk to please a vast array of musical tastes. This is where Polvo and Slint touch each other in the swimsuit area. Enjoy. Limited press of 500.
Last recording by one of Oakland's finest. Limited stock. Serially numbered to 100. Includes a limited run full color poster that offers full photographic documentation of the band as seen through the eyes of a variety of photographers. Get this now.
Says Conan Neutron of Replicator
We had a good run. We far exceeded all our wildest expectations, and then some.
We saw places we never would have seen otherwise, met people we never would have met otherwise. We had experiences that
will last a lifetime and make for some very funny anecdotes later in life. Tragedy+Time=Comedy. We did our best to give back
the ass kicking that music had given to us, and hopefully touched a few lives in the process.
Vans were broken, so were glasses. Relationships and credit wrecked, hearing was damaged. Good times were had.
End communication.
Stuttgart, Germany's Tiger Shower Caps have given us one of our finest releases to date with their self-titled debut. Lyrically comical, this recording blazes with pop hooks that have been completely dredged in San Diego post-punk leanings. Limited press of 500.
This is your five song introduction to the Olympia three-piece known as Wisdom Teeth. Some call this math rock. Some call this post-punk. We call this Olympia Dental. The band manages to unearth a sound that's almost as discomforting as it is vulnerable. Limited press of 500.
It's a pleasure to be releasing the latest by one of our favorites. Says Karen Nicoletti of SkinnyMag:
With their off-kilter melodies and even more off-kilter lyrics ("It's
like a surrealist painting / The kind with a giant penis serving tea
to dainty old ladies" comes to mind), Oakland trio Replicator again
illustrates troubled times in a technology-reliant age with Machines
Will Always Let You Down. Their third full-length album - a trip
to a time in which, among other horrors, life-altering nanotechnology
allows microscopic machines to explode in the bloodstream - would be terrifying
if not for the exuberance that constantly breaks through the surface.
The jagged edges are plentiful, but they serve to create crazily built
structures that inevitably come crashing down. Between declarations of "Damn
right, there's evil inside" and "You will do as I command because
I own you," Replicator has set themes of pessimism, corruption and
oppressive fear against an appealingly chaotic sound. And for sheer magnitude
of profanity, may I suggest "King Shit of Fuck Mountain" for
the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Another Bullshit Night in
Suck City?
Limited press of 500.
Hailing from Siracusa, Sicily, these young men produce music that is both aggressive and reflective. Progressions are well calculated, allowing for them to create a wall of sound that is beautiful at one point and thunderous at another. The Crying Mary is their eagerly awaited debut. Recorded by Sacha Tilotta and Alfredo Musumeci at Dreams Factory analog studio. Mastered in Olympia, WA by Matt Buscher. Limited press of 500.
Two choice cuts composed by Kentaro Togawa of Kyoto Japan. Patience pays big when listening to these methodically progressive instrumentals.
OUT OF PRINT!
The four men involved with this recording passed themselves around to form two three-man bands. These two songs were recorded in Olympia, WA. Stefan Simikich was at the helm. Also available via Wantage USA's 21st Release Hits Omnibus. This single represents the lone Actual Technology recording as well as the final Quarterhorse recording.
Bellini passed these songs along to us shortly after wrapping up with the Small Stones session. The Buffalo Song appears on Small Stones while Never Again remains a Radio Is Down exclusive. Two great songs.
Recorded in Austin, TX by Steve Albini. Mastered by John Golden. Red vinyl. Embossed and serially numbered to 500. Get them while they last.
Infectious post-punk with smart lyrics, angular guitar, and an unavoidably ass-shaking rhythm section. Says Odyssey Zine, "Brisk, smart, tight, indie rock with sweeping gusts of distorted melody and thumping, chaotic rhythms -- a real surprise. Tense and caffeine-fueled, ringing energy comes out out in pixellated, static bursts. A superb effort."
Recorded in Olympia, WA by John Devoy. Mastered by George Horn. Natural fiber packaging. Screened art. Embossed and serially numbered to 500.
OLY/PDX three-piece serving minimalist loud rock. Metronomic rhythms, layered guitars, and vocals pitched with equal parts piss and vinegar. Says Lollipop: "They reference little except the rock ideal of stacking noise on top of squared-off rhythmn, mostly keeping midtempo, where the true gut-punch is firmly located. It's pretty much uncut and crashed out."
Recorded in Chicago, IL by Steve Albini. Mastered by John Golden. Serially numbered to 750.
Two-piece jackhammer that would eventually become The Quarterhorse of Olympia. Brass knuckle drum beats, sludge based guitar, and dual vocals. Tracks 1-6 recorded in Chicago, IL by Steve Albini. Tracks 7 and 8 recorded in Olympia, WA by James Olsen. Mastered by John Golden. Limited press of 750.
